Hi Denise, I enjoyed your article. I am a huge proponent of AI tools, but I am also an advocate for using them ethically.

I think that AI tools might be helpful to adult writers in the way that spellcheck is, I agree that we do not have enough information about the pedagogical value of AI tools for young writers/learners. We need to tread very carefully when it comes to using them as teaching tools.

One thing I think about is how we can teach students to use AI in ethical ways. I think the litmus test you proposed ("Can they already do it by themselves?") is fitting.
